Who are you and what course have you created?

I am a professional online content creator with more than 8 years of experience creating websites, YouTube channels and online courses – one of or recent projects sold for $315,000. My company is LiveWell Media LTD. I also run a media school that teaches absolute beginners how to create a job replacing income online using the power of online content creation. It’s called The 6 Figure Content Academy.

It uses the same strategies that I have personally used to generate more than $500,000 online in the last 36 months from online content creation. We currently have more than 50 students working on their content businesses. Spots for the Academy are limited to ensure I can work with the students 1-1.

What market does your online course serve?

Our course is in the ‘make money online’ market with a niche focus on online content creation – specifically websites, YouTube channels, and online courses that can generate 6 figures online. Whilst anyone can make extra income online with my course, I’m specifically looking to help people who want to quit their job or at least make a job replacing income online.

What’s the biggest benefit of taking your course?

The biggest benefit of taking my course is that you will learn how to create content (even if you have no prior experience) that is specifically designed to make money – rather than just creating content randomly and hoping for the best. You are taught everything from the ground up. The Academy is specifically structured so that you learn how to pick a single topic that you can create a website, YouTube channel, and online course around to maximise profits and create stability.

However, each track can be taken independently – since each method is reverse engineered around highly monetizable end points. For example, you could have a website and a YT channel around different topics. Or you can just pick one method if that’s what you’d prefer. For example, many of my students just have a website and put all their focus into that.

How did you get into the market?

I came up with the idea after I sold my last website for $315,000. I figured that other people might be interested in learning the exact process I used. Then, I created a YouTube channel and successfully got 50 sign ups in 72 hours. I then added the YouTube and methods for launching that course to the course itself. This is how it became a media school.

Why did you decide to create an online course in the first place?

I decided to create an online course because through my own personal experience I understood the exact step by step process it takes to go from having zero knowledge in a topic to being able to create a profitable online content business. Therefore, I realized that there is value in having a set of actionable steps that can take someone from where they are now to where they want to be – without having to go through the struggle of wasting time and money on methods that don’t work.

Did you have any moments of doubt before you created/launched it?

Even though I have proven results, made multiple 6 figures online, and I’ve got students who are also seeing results, I do have imposter syndrome and I doubt myself daily because I hold myself to an exceptionally high standard. To combat this, I write out a daily plan of tasks that I need to do relative to my weekly, monthly and yearly plan and keep taking action. Strategy + action + adjustment destroys doubt.

What is your online course like?

The online course is hosted via Kajabi and it comprises of lessons that contain both a video and written instructions. The videos are screenshares with me being visible on the screen to demonstrate what to do in the lesson. The written instructions are an actionable summary of what to do – so the student doesn’t have to rewatch the video to remember what to do when they return to the lesson.

How long did it take you to create your course?

The initial launch took 1 month to complete (from zero to 50 sign ups). Before creating a single piece of content, I first built my audience on YouTube.

I used my knowledge of the YouTube algorithm to create a video that got 69,000 views in 3 weeks – this built my audience fast and I funneled them through a series of related free videos. - Dan Cartwright Click To Tweet

That got people invested in the process of building a website for free.

From here, I pushed them to my email list having validated my course idea. I then built excitement and anticipation for the course and used a price ascension model to push sales.

I also used my personal Instagram to build connections and push sales. This resulted in 50 sign ups in 72 hours. I then closed down the cart and focused on helping my students get started. I only built around 40% of the content of the course for the first launch (enough to give value to the students who initially joined). Then I built out the rest of the content once I knew people were going to join.

Do you have a lead magnet?

For the initial launch, I used a type of email lead magnet where I provided written instructions to go alongside my free YouTube video to help the student get started building their website. This micro investment helped people buy into the process and made the sale easier.

I also tested webinars but these didn’t work so well. At the moment, I don’t use a lead magnet. Instead, I direct people from my YouTube videos directly to the sales page and I also have free content on my website.

What’s the traffic strategy that works best for you?

YouTube traffic is by far the best traffic source for me. That’s because it allows me to build trust and give away value for free. I have tried paid ads but this didn’t work so well. The ideal client avatar wasn’t nailed down and not enough trust was present (a big factor when promoting a ‘make money online’ course – since most people think it’s a scam).

What online course platform are you using?

Kajabi – it’s pricy but it does everything I need and I’m happy with it. It’s much better than trying to do it via WordPress and dealing with plugin conflicts. Kajabi has all the features I need right now.

What other tools do you use to run your online business?

I used Aweber for a while but other than that Kajabi has everything I need, including a forum, although some students are asking for Discord to chat.

What books or training programs have you found useful on your journey?

I’ve looked at many videos, taken several courses on Udemy, and spoken to many other course creators. All this has resulted in conflicting strategies and methods. In the end, the only thing that worked for me was to keep trying and testing different methods. Every market, client base, and mentor combination is different. I would say that you just have to get out there and be prepared to fail over and over until you figure it out. Test and adjust – don’t give up.

Do you have any big mistakes you’ve made that you’re willing to share?

The biggest mistake I ever made was listening to the ‘build it and they will come’ mantra. - Dan Cartwright Click To Tweet

I did this for a previous course and it failed completely because all of your focus is spent on trying to get sales which comes across as needy and pushy. You MUST build your audience FIRST and craft your offer around what the market NEEDS, not what you WANT to create. I used YouTube to validate my idea before I created the course. People really hate being sold to online – they have to WANT to buy it. So I simply put out content that has value in isolation, and ATTRACT people to my offer – I don’t chase down leads.

Please share your revenue

The initial launch generated just over £5,000 in 72 hours using the entry price of £97. Using the price ascension model, we can ethically charge more whilst testing the market to see what people are willing to pay for the outcome. As we add more value to the course and increase the price point, we can offer more for our students. For example, we now know that people are willing to pay £10,000 for the newer, updated versions of course when 1-1 coaching is also included. We currently don’t charge £10K for standard access since we want to make the course accessible to the average person. However, the price does increase with each intake. That’s because each cohort allows us to make the course even better through student feedback and demonstrate better results over time.

Please tell us about what the money you’ve earned from your course has done for you.

Aside from living expenses, nearly all the money is put back into the company to test new traction points. This also helps me scale as fast as possible in areas that produce a +ROI. However, I am also able to travel to places like Dubai to attend conferences to network with the top content creators. I feed this value back into the Academy to help my students.

Any other numbers to share?

I was able to get just under 2,000 YouTube subscribers.

I also got monetized in under 2 months using the same methods I teach in the course. Specifically by finding a trending topic being pushed by smaller YouTube channels. - Dan Cartwright Click To Tweet

I then made a better video so that it would get pushed by the algorithm and create my subscriber base. I teach this ‘Refraction Method’ using the Fast Action Funnels section of the Academy step-by-step.

What has creating your course done for you personally?

Creating a course allows me to give back and help people. My personal mission is to use the knowledge I have gained to help 1,000 people make a job replacing income online in the next 5 years.

Do you have a story of a transformation from any of your clients?

Jeff had an existing website for his film school but he was paying for ads to get clients. He used my SEO methods and content templates to create content that ranks in Google now he gets clients for free and this has led to him working directly with Samsung as a result. What advice do you have for people just starting?

Build you audience first. Craft your offer around what they want. Use YouTube if you can since this builds trust and leads to conversions.
